LAES Policy Statement

Academic Expectations

In addition to the below LAES specific policies, students must adhere to the Academic Requirements and Policies as stated in the Cal Poly Catalog. LAES students are required to meet minimum academic expectations in order to remain in satisfactory academic/administrative standing. Students must be of good academic standing (GPA of at least 2.00) and be making sufficient progress in the major.

Credit/No Credit

LAES students are not allowed to take any major or support courses for credit/no credit. Students who are unsure if a course is a major or support course should check LAES curriculum or contact a Program Director.

Double Majors or Degrees

Students may be awarded a BA degree with two majors or a BA and BS degree with two majors if all requirements of both curricula are satisfied at the same time. Students pursuing approved double majors must present a quarter-by-quarter course outline that shows how they propose to finish both majors. Students are expected to make equal progress in both majors and have a consistent academic record that meet minimum grade requirements.

Withdrawals

Students wishing to withdraw must adhere to the timeline as stated in the Cal Poly Catalog. All students requesting to withdraw from a course (or from the term) should see a Program Director so their academic status can be discussed. Students should fill out the Course Withdrawal Request and contact the Program Assistant to schedule this appointment. This must be completed in a timely manner in order for the withdraw request to be approved.

Academic Probation

Students who do not meet minimum GPA standards are automatically placed on academic probation and if not remedied in the next immediate term, could face disqualification. Students should consult the Cal Poly Catalog for specifics. Because being on AP has serious consequences, it is important that students take immediate steps to remedy the situation. Therefore, the Program Directors require students listed on AP to meet with them before the end of the first week of the upcoming quarter to discuss a plan of action.

LAES students should also review the Student Responsibilities section on the Advising webpage.
