Career Possibilities

The LAES Program provides students with a great deal of freedom in creating their area of specialization. All LAES students build their study programs based on one-on-one consultation with the Program Directors.

This program prepares students for a wide range of innovative careers in emerging professional fields that combine skills and interests in the arts, technology, and culture, and also prepares them for further study in graduate school. The successful graduate will understand technology and its limitations, benefits, and implications relative to other fields. Graduates receive a solid foundation in Engineering and scientific principles, as well as a cultural appreciation that supports them in careers requiring significant levels of technical and cultural fluency.

A BA in Liberal Arts and Engineering Studies can lead to careers in:

  • Audio Technology
  • Digital Media Production and Management
  • Digital Publishing
  • Environmental Technology Education
  • Film and Television Production
  • Game Design
  • Government Policy Making/Analysis
  • International Technology Management
  • STEM education (in-school and out-of-school contexts)
  • Sustainable Community Development
  • Technical Communications
  • Technology Services and Management
  • Web Design

The LAES Program creates innovators who can help organizations find new ways to talk with people from many different cultural and linguistic backgrounds. The successful graduate will fully understand how technology can be both a solution and a problem when dealing with a wide range of issues, and can revise and adapt complex information for public distribution via textual, visual, and interactive media. As modern culture becomes truly global and our use of complex technology becomes an integral part of everything we do, a solid understanding of Engineering and the Humanities will prove essential for solving nearly any problem.
