Two Towns Passage Project

LAES Project

Team: Students in LAES Capstone courses 2017-2018

Project Goals: The goal of the Two Towns project is to create a more inviting and interesting tunnel connecting two areas of Sacramento. Students designed an artificial reality app that lets pedestrians dive into the complex stories and meanings behind the elements of the mural. Esteban Villa, a prominent member of the RCAF is the artist behind the hopi-style mural.

In order to engage visitors and create interaction, certain sections of the mural were brought to life. For example, when users walk by points in the timeline mural, painted trains will roar to life, emerging from the wall. These trains highlight the importance of trains and the transcontinental railroad to Sacramento’s history.
