Santa Barbara Zoo Projects

The Santa Barbara Zoo has collaborated with Cal Poly SLO Liberal Arts and Engineering Studies students on multiple projects. Students created engaging educational videos for the Santa Barbara Zoo and students are now collaborating on a touch screen educational display that will be implemented in an exhibit at the zoo.

Student Project: Santa Barbara Zoo Immersive Conservation Video Project
Team: Cameron Amador, Tra Nguyen, Joseph Robison, Kate Seery
Project Goals: To create a total of four short videos to be utilized by the zoo to add texture, detail, and fun to their immersive spaces and support their mission to get the public involved in conservation.
Opened in 1963, the Santa Barbara Zoo is an AZA (Association of Zoos & Aquariums) accredited institution dedicated to the preservation, conservation, and enhancement of the natural world and its living treasures through education, research, and recreation. Comprised of 30 acres of botanic gardens along the pacific coast, 109 animal species, and around 300 employees, the SB Zoo wants its conservation work at the forefront of visitors’ minds when they explore. To accomplish this, new immersive spaces where visitors can actively connect with nature and get hands-on with the same conservation work that the zoo supports every day have been created. The zoo has designed and opened 4 immersive education spaces within the last three years: The Ranger Station, The Conservation Hub, Field Outpost 1: Sweetwater, and Field Outpost 2: Lizard Landing.
