Project Goals: The goal of the Sustainable Land Initiative is to provide assistance with best practices for water management, soil quality, erosion, and reduce climate impacts while protecting Resource Conservation Districts.

The Sustainable Land Initiative supports farmers in adopting climate-smart agricultural practices to enhance soil health, conserve water, and improve crop yields, which boosts economic returns while reducing nutrient runoff and groundwater depletion. There is comprehensive services including farm analysis and planning:

  • consultations to align strategies with landowner goals
  • Assistance in securing funding and equipment
  • Training
  • Farm electrification
  • Access to new market opportunities

The process begins with a simple form submission, a customized plan is then developed for specific ecosites like orchards, pastures, and row crops. Farmers prioritize practices that interest them, with SLI moving swiftly to implementation when resources are available (scientific impact data) it fosters resilience and sustainability in agriculture.
